BAGHDAD (AFP) — Iraq's justice system is to probe the case of the journalist who hurled his shoes at US President George W. Bush, officials said on Tuesday, as his brother said he had been beaten up by security agents.

"Muntazer al-Zaidi has been transferred to the judicial authorities who have opened an investigation. But it is too soon to say who was behind this act," General Qassem Atta, spokesman for a Baghdad security plan, told AFP.

The journalist's brother, meanwhile, said he has a broken arm and ribs after being struck by Iraqi security agents.

BALLS?  BALLS????

Let's talk about the balls of our fallen soldiers that died to liberate jacka**es like him.  Let's talk of the billions of dollars spent on these DOGS that would have been better spent on cancer research.  Let's talk about the ingratitude of the Iraqis after freeing them from a murderous dictator.

I don't care what happens to this guy or any of them anymore.  He should have thrown his shoe at Saddam, not the President of the US.  Give me a break!  If you care so much, take a trip over there and see what these animals are really like.

Bush has caused as much death and destruction in Iraq as Saddam ever did and for one reason only oil.

Wow. You're an idiot.

You honestly believe for one second that this war had anything to do with "liberating" the Iraqis? The Bush administration has done everything but directly admit that this war was for establishing a presence in the Middle East and for reestablishing oil infrastructure that Hussein had previously outlawed. Hell, Bush's dad put Hussein in power. People have real short memories, eh?

George Bush killed 2800% more people than Saddam Hussein ever did. The Iraqis did not want the U.S. to stick their interventionist nose into anything, you fool. This war is a farce, and anyone with one molecule of objectivity and reason in their heads knows this.

God, I thought people like you who swallow up every bit of bull@!$%# spewed by the Bush administration had finally shut up...

Yeah lets talk about that because all the money spent on the Iraq war SHOULD have been spent on something else.

The garbage some people eat up in defence of their participation in an illegal invasion is incredible.  The US is the tyrant now, Saddam was small fry.

True.  The Bush administration began a war that many, even those initially in favor of (out of the "fear" we all had), now regret terribly.  Saddam wasn't a pillar of hope, but certainly should not have been our main concern following September 11. Perhaps not a concern at all.  That said however, the journalist with a shoe fetish is... for lack of better words... basically a "tool" or "dork" or "dumbass"... and I say this as a journalist myself.  Plenty of personalities and figures I disagree with, and even despise (or their practices), but let's not stoop to levels simply for jacking up the "A-hole" factor in a nation where everyday people have it hard enough.  Bringing out more mayhem, or giving dirtbag guerrilla-wannabees any reason to cheer isn't something we should probably be happy about.  It's a screwed up situation that administration put everyone in, lots of people injured and killed in the process.  Spreading the word "We don't like it and won't let it happen again" is cool to express to Bush and his cronies, but outbursts in that forum... dangerous and plain old lame.  Really now, do you expect the authorities NOT to rough someone up for that?  Please.  Just imagine oneself in a head of state role, and some joker throws objects your way.  Yeah, you would have security do a number on them too.

No Christian I wouldn't. As a statesmen and president I would try and understand the frustration that caused this man to act this way at the risk of his own life and hopefully I would be a big enough man to urge the Iraqi government to release the man who has suffered more than enough. We are not talking about an assasination attempt here or even a genuine attempt to hurt Bush. Bush has never shown the least amount of real empathy for anyone but his rich friends so I doubt very much if that will happen.

I admit, perhaps I - a who is a person generally disgusted by the Bush Administration overall- still let "things" get to me from time to time, as such the case here with the whole "fear" factor (that admin pushed so hard for in all of us).  Yes, it worked a little and I become angered, rushing too quickly to defend the President.  As a journalist however, the man should've shown more objectivity, not throwing his passion out in rage.  But then again, as one myself, I am also a human too, so I can see how disgust can rear an uglier head.  Luckydog... you are all right in my book, and probably a better person for not wanting your staff to lay the smack down on said shoe thrower.  I take in what you say and respect your thoughts.

Thanks for the kind words Christian and it is human nature to want to respond blow for blow which is what gets us into trouble a lot of the time. More trouble than if we just stopped and think things through.

In this man's mind, he and his country are the victims and he was responding to Bush. The Arab and Persian world see that in a way many of us do not and by changing our response to one of generousity I think this incident could have become a positive thing, however given our leadership and their history of intemperate responses I think that is not going to happen. More than likely, he will become a martyr and a rallying cry for those who fear and hate America.

    To Mike Sifeldeen,

Wow, called an idiot by a left wing Nazi propagandist.  Ohhh.  Lets not let facts ever get in the way of an arguement by a moron but for your historical interest, Saddam's war with Iran resulted in over ONE MILLION DEAD and lets not forget about the tens of thousands Kurds that were gassed as well as thousands of others murdered for the amusement of Saddam and his sons.  Each day more Saddam burial fields are uncovered so don't you dare lecture me Josef Goebels on how we made things worse.  Yep, things were just great while Saddam was in power!

I wish we did not go in there; I hate that we are in there but I also hate spineless revisionist cowards like yourself that spend so much time and energy hating our country.  Go drink some more left wing Koolaide you *%#$.   Obama will fix everything after he gets his Illinois buddies out of jail.

Wow, Hawthorne. Ever heard of Godwin's law?

    You fail at debate.

And Saddam could've killed or indirectly killed whoever the @!$%# he wanted to, that does not give the U.S. permission to do jack @!$%# about it. I'm not debating the man's character, what I am debating is your country's egomaniacal, interventionist, "we can police the globe" mentality.

You tell other countries to toe the line and act democratically and not possess weapons, and you do the exact opposite and have the biggest weapon stores in the world. The hypocrisy is mind-numbing.

edit: And you can't "hate [a] country". That's not even a thing. That nationalist bull@!$%# doesn't fly with me.

You seed this article and then you accuse those who comment of their failure to debate you properly?

I don't remember telling anyone to "toe the line.'  How can we tell others what to do anyway?  What are you, puppets?

For one thing, we do not live in a democratic society.  Where did you get that bit of information?

When did we tell anyone they should not have any weapons?

Yes, you can hate a country.  It's done every day.

For the record, I hope the guy gets jail time.

    1. Invoking ridiculous claims of Nazism is failure to debate properly.
    2. Your country tells others to "toe-the-line", figuratively speaking.
    3. You sure don't. Setting up fake democracies abroad is just as stupid, too.
    4. "Iraq possesses weapons of mass destruction." Whoopty-freaking-doo. I wish they did. Someone should have weapons of mass destruction other than the U.S.
    5. A country is a fictitious division of land. You can't hate a plot of land.
    6. For the record, I hope the guy gets a medal.

    Sifeldeen,

You don't want a debate; some might see you as an arrogant, pompous, self rightous poot.  I just see you as a very immature, idealistic, misguided fool.  You are happy to hate our country while simultaneously living under our protective umbrella and the same weapons that help protect you.  It is sad that this is what you are learning at Canadian university.  Perhaps it might be worthwhile for you to further investigate the apparently perfect Canadian government...such as THEIR disgusting treatment of the native population.  No wonder various provinces want to secede from Canada.  Smack us rightfully for some of our stupidity but you are an embarrassment with some of your nonsense.  Now go tell Daddy and have this taken off your site.  Boy, what I would give to meet you in person!

What stupidity...you wish Iraq had weapons of mass destruction?  Are you hoping Iran also gets these weapons?   Bin Laden?   Now that was intelligent.  Your guy is going to prison and going to be spending some time with Big Bubba...just what he deserves.  You have made me actually root for this to happen!!!!

I find it ironic that cowards like yourself will be the first to run for cover and hide when/if something like 9/11 happens to Canada.

    PS...Is your college really accredited?

Haha, weapons for protection eh? Kind of like @!$%#ing for virginity.

Perhaps it might be worthwhile for you to further investigate the apparently perfect Canadian government...such as THEIR disgusting treatment of the native population.

Irrelevant, Red herring, etc. I'm not denying any of this, and you certainly should not be proud of your own country's treatment of aboriginals.

No wonder various provinces want to secede from Canada.

Wow, at least I have a slight idea what I'm talking about when I debate American politics. A very small minority of French idealists in Quebec want "Nation-within-a-nation" status. How you got "various" and "secede" is beyond me.

Are you hoping Iran also gets these weapons? Bin Laden?

Ideally, I wish no one had weapons. But if the U.S. is going to try and bully the globe and act massively hypocritical, then yes, I'd like them to have as much competition as other countries want to muster.

I find it ironic that cowards like yourself will be the first to run for cover and hide when/if something like 9/11 happens to Canada.

Oh, please. The real cowards are the imbeciles who honestly believe Al Qaeda is real and that Arabs in caves with AKs managed to orchestrate a terror attack of such magnitude.

      PS...Is your college really accredited?

The University of Alberta is one of the most respected schools in North America, with world-class stem cell and diabetes research programs, and a large arts program with many national and international chair member professors.
